School Houses Compete with Fervor: “Hard Times Don’t Last, But Tough People Do”
“In halls of learning, where minds take flight,
Six houses stand, beacons of excellence in sight.
Nile’s mighty waters, a symbol of strength and grace,
Albert’s adventurous spirit, a pioneering pace.
Elgon’s majestic peaks, a challenge to ascend,
Rwenzori’s snow-capped grandeur, a triumph to amend.
Victoria’s victorious spirit, a laurel to wear,
Kyoga’s tranquil waters, a reflection of wisdom to share.
Six houses, six hearts, beating as one,
United in pursuit of knowledge, until the day is won.”
On July 20th, 2024, our school’s six houses – Nile, Albert, Elgon, Rwenzori, Victoria, and Kyoga – convened for the highly anticipated competitions, themed “Hard Times Don’t Last, But Tough People Do.” The events, which commenced in the first term with poetry, speeches, and plays, reached their climax with an array of captivating performances.
The competitions saw an unprecedented level of enthusiasm, with parents adding to the electric atmosphere. Some students humorously admitted that the promise of a bull for the winning house and a goat for the second house sparked their sudden interest in participating!

In all seriousness, every house showcased their exceptional talents, making for a mesmerizing spectacle. The events included:
– Set pieces: Harmonious renditions of the East African anthem
– Vocal solo: Soulful Luganda songs inspired by the theme
– Traditional dances: Vibrant performances representing eastern, western, northern, and central Uganda
– Contemporary dances: Innovative modern dances inspired by the theme
– Folk songs: Enchanting regional songs from Uganda, all connected to the theme
– Mime: Each house presented a poignant theme-related performance.
Following the presentations, the main hall filled with students eager to hear the speeches. Hon Dr. Joyce Nalunga Birimumaaso, the chief guest, delivered an inspiring address, followed by the adjudicators’ remarks and the head teacher’s announcement of the results.

With her signature dramatic flair, the head teacher revealed the winners:

1. Rwenzori House
2. Albert House
3. Victoria House
4. Kyoga House
5. Elgon House
6. Nile House.
The most outstanding performers were also recognized, with Ayebare Elijah of Albert House and Mirembe Bethany, also the Farm and Garden Prefect of OLGC, emerging as the most outstanding male and female performers, respectively.
The competitions will be remembered for their showcase of teamwork, creativity, and school spirit. Congratulations to the winning houses, and thank you to everyone involved for making it an unforgettable experience!
